One person is dead after a multivehicle pileup near a Phoenix bus stop on Thursday night, authorities said.

A car traveling at a high rate of speed crashed into a line of vehicles that were stopped behind a bus that was letting off passengers near 19th Avenue and Evans Drive, between Thunderbird and Greenway roads, around 9:10 p.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.

The bus was not involved in the collision, but five vehicles were damaged in a chain reaction.

One of the drivers was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital.

No other details about injuries or the cause of the crash were immediately available.

Detectives from the Phoenix Police Vehicular Crimes Bureau are handling the investigation.

The deadly collision occurred a day after an SUV crashed into a group of people waiting at a bus stop near 46th Street and Baseline Road on Wednesday morning. Five people were hospitalized after that incident.
