Google Fiber construction starts in 3rd metro Phoenix community

PHOENIX – Queen Creek is a step closer to becoming the third Valley community with access to Google Fiber high-speed internet service.

The company announced this week it has officially started construction on a new fiber-to-home network in the fast-growing southeast Valley town.

The Queen Creek Town Council unanimously approved an ordinance to allow Google Fiber to build its network in December 2023.

At the time, construction was expected to begin in August 2024, with service starting early this year. Google didn’t say why the work was delayed.

When will Google Fiber be available in Queen Creek?

The company is now saying the Queen Creek system will come online in early 2026.

The town will join Mesa and Chandler as the only two metro Phoenix areas with access to Google Fiber, or GFiber, service.

Residents can sign up online to receive updates on the project and learn when service becomes available.

GFiber’s connection is made of glass strands and uses lasers to transmit information at rates close to the speed of light, producing fast upload and download speed across multiple devices with a 99.9% reliable connection.

The service is offered in multiple rate plans, with upload and download speeds of up to 8 gigabits per second at the current top level.

The cheapest plan, which provides speeds of 1 gigabit per second, costs $70 per month, a price that hasn’t changed since Google launched the product in 2012.
