New bistro The Mercer opens in Esplanade taking former space of iconic bar

PHOENIX — The Mercer, an American bistro and martini lounge, opened at the Esplanade earlier this month.

The location of the elegant restaurant was formerly occupied by the MercBar, which closed last year after 28 years.

The Mercer is located at 2525 E. Camelback Road. 

The bistro’s menu features sushi rolls, a raw bar, grilled branzino fish and tableside cut prime rib.

The bar offers up several martini options, including a Pickle martini made with Wheatley Dill Vodka and Grillo pickle brine.

The new spot is under the ownership of 151 Hospitality, which was co-founded by Phoenix restaurateurs Peter Hearn and Rick Phillips.

Other restaurants under the group are Little Pickle and Camello, a Mexican restaurant scheduled to open up this year.
