DiMaggio’s Italian Restaurant to expand to Phoenix’s Uptown Plaza, looks at more growth

DiMaggio’s Italian Restaurant, a popular Scottsdale dining destination, is preparing to open its second location in Phoenix.

The restaurant, which is owned by Frank DiMaggio, a relative to New York Yankee great Joe DiMaggio, as well as Brandon and Michele Gioffre, will be taking over the space vacated in the winter of 2025 by Chicago pizzeria Lou Malnati’s in Phoenix’s Uptown Plaza retail center, at Central Avenue and Camelback Road.

DiMaggio’s opened its Scottsdale location at the Grove in the McCormick Ranch neighborhood in 2024 to a lot of demand and success.

“Once you start to build the momentum of your first location, I think it’s imperative that you build upon the momentum,” DiMaggio told the Business Journal. “The demand is there.”

The new location, which is slated to open in the fourth quarter of 2026, will have a similar design and feel to the Scottsdale location but is in a space that is about 30% bigger with a private dining room — which is something DiMaggio said has been requested by the restaurant’s celebrity clientele.
