Apartment complex made of recycled shipping containers completed in east Phoenix

PHOENIX — A modular housing company recently completed a 19-unit apartment complex made of recycled shipping containers in east Phoenix, according to a Thursday press release.

Tudo Capital constructed the one- and two-bedroom units out of 45 shipping containers, and the complex called “Stacks on Polk” is located off the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway near 53rd and Polk streets.

Units’ rental pricing starts at $1,250 per month.

Evan Glickman, founder of Tudo Capital, said the company was able to save around 30% on construction costs by using lower labor costs at its factory in Hermosillo, Mexico.

“Our mission is to reduce the cost of housing production,” Glickman said in the release. “By utilizing recycled materials, new code paths and using lower cost labor in our Mexico facility, we are able to significantly cut project costs compared to site-built projects.”

Families in Glendale have similarly been able to move into homes made of recycled materials at Legacy Village, which is located near 59th Avenue and Bethany Home Road.
