201-unit build-to-rent community opens in Apache Junction

PHOENIX — A new housing development is looking to spark growth along a key corridor in Apache Junction.

City leaders and developers gathered Wednesday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of VERGE, a 201-unit “build-to-rent” community located at the southwest corner of Broadway Avenue and Tomahawk Road.

The project, spearheaded by 29th Street Living, aims to provide a middle ground for residents who want the privacy of a single-family home with the flexibility of a rental.

Apache Junction Mayor Chip Wilson said the development is more than just a place to live, it’s an economic driver for the Old West Highway corridor.

“VERGE will be a significant catalyst for the Old West Highway corridor, and we are already seeing other developers explore sites along this key arterial,” Wilson said in a press release. “We would like to thank 29th Street Living for their investment and collaborative efforts with the city.”

The community features a mix of modern homes and amenities designed to attract people to the East Valley. Developers say all residential buildings are now complete, and leasing activity has been strong since the first units became available.

Beric Wessley, director of lease-up operations, said the rapid pace of interest confirms the demand for upscale rental options in the area.

“The pace of leasing in Apache Junction confirms what we believed from the start — there is strong demand for this type of housing in the market,” Wessley said.
