Jon Kyl sat down for an exclusive podcast interview 20 months before his death

Twenty months before his death, longtime Congressman Jon Kyl sat down for an exclusive interview on Mike Broomhead’s Amazing Arizonans podcast.

Kyl talked to the KTAR News 92.3 FM host for over an hour about his career and his legacy during the Jan. 15, 2025, episode, which can be viewed or listened to above.

The Republican discussed his partnership with Sen. John McCain, his important work on water policy and other topics. As the interview wrapped up, he encouraged citizens to remain engaged with their government.

“The thing I enjoyed most about my public service, in addition to helping to make good policy for the country, was helping to teach people about our government, why it’s important for them to participate in it,” he said.

“If nothing else, vote, but there’s so much more you can do. And if you really care about your future, you care about your kids and grandkids and so on … make a little time for participating in one of the political parties or in some other way where you can say at the end of your life, ‘Yeah, I did something.’”

Less than a year after the interview, Kyl announced that he was withdrawing from public life after being diagnosed with a neurological disease that manifested as dementia.

On Thursday, Kyl’s family announced that he died at age 84.
