Buckeye teen arrested after allegedly posting school shooting threat on social media

PHOENIX — A student at a West Valley high school was arrested Thursday after allegedly posting a school shooting threat on social media, authorities said.

Isaiah Chavez, 18, who is a student at Youngker High School near Lower Buckeye and Apache roads in Buckeye, was arrested at his home Thursday night and booked into jail on charges of threats and interference with or disruption of an educational institution, according to the Buckeye Police Department.

Buckeye police began investigating the alleged threat around 3 p.m. on Thursday after a student told a school resource officer he had seen it on Instagram. However, the student told the officer he did not know who the account belonged to.

Police identified Chavez as the account’s owner and took him into custody around 9 p.m.

The department said there is no ongoing threat.

This is the second alleged school threat Buckeye police have investigated this week. On Thursday, the department launched an investigation after an 11-year-old student at WestPark Elementary School was allegedly found with a notebook that contained written threats.
