Young boy gets his badge with Peoria Police Department

Brendan, a 7-year-old who has had medical issues throughout his life, got to live his dream of being a police officer in Peoria last week.

PHOENIX — Seven-year-old Brendan sauntered into the Peoria police briefing room.

“Sorry I’m late,” he said.

There was a burst of laughter in the room.

Brendan, who had a heart transplant six years ago and was diagnosed with cancer last year, according to Fox 10, got to fulfill his dream of becoming a police officer last Friday.

The Peoria Police Department published a video of his day.

“I want to arrest people that are trying to steal stuff and help people,” Brendan said in the video.

He got to go on a ride along in a police car – “let’s get some criminals” – and talk on the radio.

Brendan got to lift weights, received his police badge, and even got a K-9. A stuffed animal dog with a 9-1-1 sticker, that is. He did get to meet a real-life K-9 unit, though.

While Brendan helped civilians, he also inspired police officers.

The video ended with a message to the young boy.

“You are our hero Brendan … Keep fighting buddy!”
