Arizona’s Rep. Yassamin Ansari urges end to Iran war as White House touts secret deal
Rep. Yassamin Ansari, the first Iranian-American in Congress, says the U.S. war with Iran left both countries worse off and urges an end to hostilities.
U.S. Rep. Yassamin Ansari, the first Iranian-American elected to Congress, said the nation’s war with Iran has left both countries worse off and urged an end to hostilities as the White House promotes a still-unreleased preliminary agreement.
Ansari is the youngest woman in Congress. Her parents emigrated from Iran to the United States before she was born.
The White House told the public that President Donald Trump achieved his objectives in the war even though the terms of a memorandum of understanding remain secret and formal nuclear talks have yet to begin, according to talking points obtained by The Associated Press.
“President Trump solved a threat Washington spent forty years managing,” the internal White House memo reportedly reads. “Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.”
In an interview with KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Outspoken with Bruce & Gaydos, the Arizona democrat said many Americans and, more importantly, lawmakers misunderstand Iran and the Iranian people.
“Something that I think is really important for people to know … is how different the people are from the government,” Ansari said. “It’s actually a very secular population, a very pro-West population.”
She noted the war was framed with talk of regime change that did not materialize.
“Iranians in the country are left worse off with a more repressive regime than before,” the congresswoman said.
Ansari added that the war’s goals were not met and renewed her longstanding criticism of the decision to go to war despite intelligence warnings.
“Our intelligence told (Trump) that these objectives are not possible, and none of the objectives have been met,” she said Tuesday.
Ansari called renewed peace talks a move in the right direction.
“The war was catastrophic and everybody was left worse off now,” she said. “We need to cut our losses and the war needs to end.”

Ansari needs to be challenged by her party. If she is all about fixing Iran, then go there... And get out of Arizona.
There are many good reasons why every president since Reagan considered attempting “regime change” in Iran but never followed through. Chief among those reasons — every one of those past presidents are smarter and less impulsive than The Idiot.
Ansari is an AMERICAN, her false claims to the terrorist regime in Iran is a joke. She was born in Seattle. It is clear she supports the terrorists though. Anytime someone hyphenates their heritage it implies they have a loyalty to countries besides America, which she proves.
Getting her uninformed opinion on the Iran situation is a joke, not simply just because she is a mental midget who detests America but also she knows nothing about Iran, never having lived there.
That is like asking a Catholic who has Irish heritage, though never an Irish citizen or resident or member of, about the workings of the IRA.
