Phoenix-area highway reopens after wrong-way driver crash causes injuries

PHOENIX —  A Phoenix-area highway has reopened after a crash involving a wrong-way driver shut it down during the busy rush hour period on Thursday afternoon.

Loop 202 Red Mountain westbound has reopened between Greenfield and Val Vista after a crash. All lanes are open. #phxtraffic

Chandler Police said the Loop 202 westbound from Greenfield to Val Vista has been shut down after a wrong-way driver on the roadway caused a crash. It reopened late Thursday night.

The driver was thought to be driving eastbound on the westbound highway before crashing into another vehicle.

Arizona Department of Safety officials suspect the driver was impaired at the time of the crash.

DPS officials said the roadway was to be closed for at least two hours and only minor injuries occurred, but no further information was given on a suspect or possible victims.
