Fatal wrong-way crash, police matter close parts of 2 freeways in East Valley for hours

Parts of two freeways in the East Valley were shut down through much of morning rush hour Wednesday, one because of a fatal wrong-way crash and another concerning police activity.

PHOENIX – Parts of two freeways in the East Valley were shut down through much of morning rush hour Wednesday, one because of a fatal wrong-way crash and another concerning police activity.

The wreck between a car and a truck shut down part of westbound Interstate 10 near U.S. 60 in Tempe.

The driver of the car that was going the wrong way was killed.

The freeway reopened shortly before 8 a.m., the Arizona Department of Transportation said.

Authorities closed westbound lanes of Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway near Loop 101 Pima Freeway for an investigation, ADOT said. Lanes reopened around 7:10 a.m.

No other details were immediately made available on either closure.
