Woman hospitalized after being hit by car near Interstate 17 in Phoenix

A woman was taken to a hospital suffering from life-threatening injuries early Wednesday after she was hit by a car near a Phoenix freeway.

PHOENIX – A woman was taken to a hospital suffering from life-threatening injuries early Wednesday after she was hit by a car near a Phoenix freeway.

Police shut down ramps to Interstate 17 at Dunlap Avenue around 5:45 a.m. to investigate the pedestrian-vehicle collision on the overpass.

Witnesses told officers they saw a woman pedestrian lying in the street who looked to have been hit by a vehicle.

The driver remained at the scene but had parked away from the accident site.

Police said initially a driver in an unknown vehicle had fled the scene.

No other details were immediately available.
