Woman dies after getting hit by SUV while crossing Phoenix street mid-block

PHOENIX – A woman died after getting hit by an SUV while she was walking on a major north Phoenix street outside the crosswalk Wednesday night, authorities said.

The pedestrian in her mid-50s, whose name wasn’t released, was crossing Bell Road mid-block near 17th Avenue around 8:45 p.m. when the vehicle struck her, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release.

The woman was pronounced dead after being taken to a nearby hospital by fire department responders.

The driver of the SUV, who remained at the scene, didn’t show signs of impairment, police said.
