Driver suspected of impairment in west Phoenix intersection crash that killed woman

A woman is dead and a passenger is in the hospital after an allegedly impaired driver crashed into their car at a west Phoenix intersection on Thursday night, authorities said.

Crews responded to 59th Avenue and McDowell Road for the collision around 10:45 p.m., according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Witnesses told authorities that a black pick-up truck was driving at a high-rate of speed when it failed to stop at a red light and crashed a into white passenger car, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

The impact caused the white car to crash into a business while the truck hit a light pole. The driver, 43-year-old Cecilia Cisneros Cuadros, and passenger were taken to a nearby hospital. Cuadros died of her injuries while the passenger is listed as having non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck showed signs of impairment before being hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. After his release from the hospital, he will be charged and booked in connection with the fatal west Phoenix crash.
