Police investigating after Sunnyslope shooting leaves woman dead

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department is investigating after a shooting in Sunnyslope left a woman dead on Wednesday night.

According to police, officers responded to the area of 12th Street and Mountain View Road for the shooting around 7:10 p.m.

When police arrived on scene, they found a woman, identified as 39-year-old Katherine Cervantez, inside of a vehicle suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

The Phoenix Fire Department took Cervantez to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. She was later pronounced dead.

Detectives are investigating the fatal incident.
