Woman killed in vehicle-pedestrian collision in Phoenix

PHOENIX — A woman is dead after she was struck by a vehicle in Phoenix on Thursday morning, authorities said.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to the area of 27th Avenue and Deer Valley Road for reports that a pedestrian had been hit by a car around 5:52 a.m.

When police arrived on scene, they found an adult woman in what authorities described as critical condition.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital by the Phoenix Fire Department, where she later died. She was later identified as 50-year-old Jennifer Stitt.

Police said that the driver who hit the woman stayed on scene and called 911.

Preliminary information suggested that the driver was initially stopped at a light on Deer Valley Road before they headed westbound and the woman stepped in front the car.

According to police, the driver was evaluated after the collision and impairment does not appear to be a factor in the fatal collision.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
