Woman accused of leaving child in stroller in Phoenix parking lot

PHOENIX – The woman believed to have abandoned her child in a Phoenix parking lot in May has been arrested.

Miranda Jayn Bukus, 25, was booked on one count of reckless child abuse on Aug. 2, according to court documents.

On May 18 at around 8 a.m., a small child was found in a stroller with a dirty diaper and wet pants in a parking lot at 19th Avenue and Indian School Road.

A good Samaritan took the child to a safe place and called police.

The boy was transported to a nearby hospital and was found to be uninjured. He was later turned over to the Arizona Department of Child Safety.

Surveillance video captured a woman leaving the stroller and walking away.

Vehicles were seen driving through the lot, past the stroller, after the child was abandoned.

No information was released about how police determined that the woman was Bukus, who was arrested near Dixileta Drive and 60th Street in Cave Creek.
