PHOENIX — The weather service has predicted strong winds Friday in the Phoenix area and has issued a blowing dust advisory.

The National Weather Service’s Phoenix bureau said an advisory was in place for Phoenix, Tucson, Pinal County and that drivers on I-10 near Interstate 8 south of Phoenix should be prepared for dense dust.

Part of that I-10 stretch has been repeatedly closed because of visibility hazards.

A 62-mile portion of I-10 near the Arizona-New Mexico border has been shut down for days at a time since early May because of hard-blowing thick dust.

A change in the weather pattern was starting to bring the possibility of rain into metro Phoenix over the weekend.

The summer has filled with highs in the 115-degrees range and even a little hotter. Next week was expected to only reach the low 100s.
