West Valley police department to get new therapy dog

PHOENIX — A West Valley police department will soon have a new, furry coworker.

The Surprise Police Department announced Tuesday it is getting a therapy dog to work with crime victims and witnesses.

The pup is being trained to serve the “emotional needs” of those who have been involved in a traumatic event, the department said in a Facebook post.

“While the therapy dogs work great with children, adults respond very well to the specially trained dogs as well,” the post stated.

The dog has not been named yet, but those commenting on the post had plenty of suggestions, including Noodles, Daisy, Flora Mae, Joanie and Butterscotch.

Other Valley police departments have added therapy dogs to their workforce in the last year, including Macy in Mesa and Annie in Chandler.
