We Are Cait: Halloween retailer to sell Caitlyn Jenner costumes

In a move that is debatably creepy (but definitely controversial), Spirit Halloween stores will soon be offering customers the chance to be Olympic-athlete-turned-reality-television-star Caitlyn Jenner for the big holiday, NYDailyNews.com reported.

The costumes, which could easily overstep a boundary from recognition and celebration of gender reassignment to straight mockery, have already drawn up much debate and pushback before even hitting shelves.

However, company officials are defending the move to downplay one of the most influential people of 2015 into mass-marketed costumes, calling the transgender athlete a hero.

“Caitlyn Jenner has proven to be the most important real-life superhero of the year, and Spirit Halloween is proud to carry the costume that celebrates her,” Trisha Lombardo, the company’s PR and marketing head, said.

This is not the first time the retailer has been brought under fire: Last year, Spirit carried “Slenderman” costumes for sale, a play on the character who allegedly inspired two young girls from Wisconsin to murder their friend in May of last year.

For now, we can only imagine what the costumes will portray: The company is not revealing any details until they go on sale in four to six weeks, just in time for Halloween.
