Watch: Superintendent of Public Instruction candidates Hoffman, Horne face off in debate

PHOENIX — Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction candidates Kathy Hoffman and Tom Horne face off Wednesday night in a debate put on by PBS.

Hoffman, a Democrat, is the current schools chief and has held the office since 2019.

Horne, the Republican nominee, is also no stranger to the position.

He served as superintendent of public instruction from 2003-2011.

Hoffman ran unopposed in her primary.

That wasn’t the case for Horne.

The Republican beat out Shiry Sapir and Michelle Udall for the nomination in the Aug. 2 primary election.

Potential topics during the debate include critical race theory, teacher shortages and pay, voucher program expansion and the spending cap.
