Warmer temperatures could soon return to Phoenix area

PHOENIX — Residents in the Phoenix area who have been anticipating warmer weather in the forecast won’t have to wait much longer.

While the Valley has been seeing temperatures in the 20s to low-30s in recent mornings, ABC15 meteorologist Iris Hermosillo said Thursday will be the last cold morning for several days.

“We’re going to start to see temperatures trending back up. High pressure builds in, and that’s going to bring in some warmer air our way,” she said.

Hermosillo said Thursday afternoon could see temperatures in the mid- to upper-50s, which would be below average but warmer compared to previous days.

High temperatures by Friday should be back in the mid-60s, which is average for this time of year, and could reach 70 degrees by next Tuesday.

Even though warmer weather is in the near future, many people in the Valley woke up to near-freezing temperatures Thursday morning.

“Phoenix Sky Harbor didn’t drop below freezing officially, but we dropped below 33 degrees,” Hermosillo said.

“When I was looking on a map…Phoenix was colder than Boston, New York City, even Bismarck, North Dakota,” she added.

“Tomorrow morning will still be cold, (but we) probably won’t see as many freezes as we have the last couple mornings.”

Phoenix-area residents could see rain starting Saturday night into Sunday morning, but Hermosillo said that storm system should be moved out of the area by Sunday night.
