Walmart to spend $72M on Arizona renovations, technology

PHOENIX — Walmart announced Wednesday that it plans to spend $71.8 million renovating and adding new technology to its stores in Arizona this year.

The retail giant said in a press release that it will remodel 14 stores in the state, add a free grocery pickup service to 34 stores and add a grocery delivery service to 20 stores.

It will also build 15 new pickup towers, where customers who purchase items online can pick up their orders in the store.

The company will purchase automated floor scrubbers for 48 stores and automated delivery truck unloaders, which scan and sort items based on priority and department, for 41 stores.

Arizona stores currently have one automated scrubber and 10 of the unloading devices.

As of Feb. 1, Walmart had 127 locations in Arizona and employed almost 33,800 associates.
