Walking (un)dead: Phoenix Zombie Walk 7 aims to raise hunger awareness

PHOENIX — Zombies are coming to Phoenix, and they’re coming for you! (Not really, don’t worry.)

Zombie Walk 7, which will be held in Phoenix’s Heritage & Science Park on Oct. 24, joined forces with St. Mary’s Food Bank and Goodwill of Central Arizona to raise at least seven tons of food aid, according to a press release.

But, “before you lose a hand, lend one.”

The slogan for the seventh-annual Zombie Walk in Phoenix says it all: Dress up as a zombie and roam the streets of Phoenix looking for some flesh — All for a good cause!

The 1.5 mile walk, which will start at the park and end at a festival made for all ages, is free but Downtown Phoenix Inc. is asking attendees to bring cash or food donations to benefit St. Mary’s Food Bank.

Other zombie-fied activities at the walk will include a “Zombification Zone,” where a $5 donation or donation of five food items is exchanged for a zombie makeover, a “Little Zombie Zone” for the youngins and a beer garden for those of legal drinking age.

So grab a couple cans of non-perishable goods, dig deep for your thirst of flesh and blood and go down to the Zombie Walk on Saturday.

After all, what can be more fun than a walk among the undead while helping those in need?
