Visitors to state park in Apache Junction can help document biodiversity in monthlong event

PHOENIX — Visitors to Lost Dutchman State Park in Apache Junction can become “citizen scientists” by helping record plant and animal species during a monthlong event in March.

Bioblitz aims to gather as much information about the biodiversity of the park, located at 6109 N. Apache Trail, within a designated time period, according to a press release.

The park said visitors can record observations by downloading the free iNaturalist app on a smartphone or tablet and taking a picture.

At the end of the event, observations will be tabulated, summarized and posted on the project page in the app, on the park’s website and on social media.

The hope of the event is to add to a biological inventory of the park.

Visitors who come to the park in March will see the awakening of life, according to the release, and is ripe for spring flower enthusiasts, birders, butterfly observers and wildlife watchers.

The entrance fee is $7 per vehicle on weekdays and $10 on the weekends.
