Veteran West Valley firefighter dies from COVID complications

PHOENIX – Veteran metro Phoenix firefighter Brian Miller died Monday after a monthlong battle with COVID-19 he was exposed to on the job, first responders said.

The Buckeye Valley Fire District announced Miller’s death in a social media post, stating the infection was work-related.

Miller had been with the far West Valley agency since 2007.

“He brought wisdom and a bright light to BVFD,” the post reads. “He will be greatly missed for the joy and positivity he always had.”

The agency said Miller is survived by his wife Debra and children Lauren and Jared.

Services will be announced at a later date.

The Arizona Department of Health Services reported 3,790 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday and 183 deaths. With the exception of three days, the daily case report was over 10,000 in January during a record surge of infections from the omicron variant.
