Vehicle involved in fatal hit-and-run in Phoenix found, suspect outstanding

PHOENIX — The vehicle that was involved in a fatal hit-and-run earlier this month has been located, the Phoenix Police Department announced Monday.

Sgt. Vince Lewis, a spokesman for the department, declined to say where the vehicle was located and whether police know who it was registered to, citing an ongoing investigation.

Police were still searching for a suspect.

Lewis said investigators were processing the vehicle for evidence.

The car, a white Ford Expedition between the years of 2007 and 2010, had visible damage to the windshield and was missing its passenger side mirror.

Taylor White, a 21-year-old Grand Canyon University student, was killed in the April 8 hit-and-run.

White and an unnamed 17-year-old were crossing the street with a green light near 31st Avenue and Camelback Road when a driver drove around several other cars and ran a red light.

White, a Colorado Springs, Colorado, native who was supposed to get married in a few weeks, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other jogger was unharmed.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Taylor White,” campus officials said in a statement Monday.

Police released surveillance video of the vehicle involved in the crash last week.

Lewis said a reward of up to $5,000 had been posted for information on the accident and/or the SUV. Tips could be left at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO (Spanish).
