PHOENIX – Two Valley teens were selected Saturday to represent Arizona in New York City next month at the National Musical Theater Awards.
The Arizona State University Gammage High School Musical Theater Awards honored Valley high school students and faculty Saturday night, awarding one female and one male student an award for the best lead role in a musical.
Haley Reed, a Dobson High student, was named the Best Female Lead in a Musical for her performance in “Thoroughly Modern Millie.”
Similarly, Miles Hull from Red Mountain was awarded the Best Male Lead in a Musical for his performance in “Mary Poppins.”
The duo will now head to the National High School Musical Theater Awards in New York City to compete among other state qualifiers for the Jimmy Award for Best Performance by an Actor and Best Performance by an Actress.
Named after the late Broadway produce and theatre owner James M. Nederlander, the Jimmy Awards will take place at Minskoff Theatre on June 25 at the Minskoff Theatre.
