Phoenix resident ‘bringing cheer’ with Christmas lights amid virus outbreak

PHOENIX — One Phoenix resident implemented his eye-catching Christmas tradition early this year to cheer up his neighborhood during the coronavirus outbreak.

Drew Hutchinson lives 758 W. Moon Valley Drive, and the Christmas lights decorating his property have attracted gazing eyes and visitors for the last ten Christmas seasons.

Hutchinson told KTAR News 92.3 FM that this marks the first time his award-winning light display has been operative for any reason other than the Christmas holiday.

He says his motivation is “bringing cheer to people during this difficult time.”

In addition to the light display, Hutchinson has been setting a cheerful mood on his property with upbeat music including parody songs and college fight songs.

Hutchinson says he’s invested more than 100 hours into the current display.

“With lighting like this you are never done setting up,” he said

As for the electric bill, Hutchinson says he tries not to look at it, but that he’s able to greatly reduce the amount of generated power by only utilizing LED lights.

Hutchinson lights up his property every evening from 7-9 p.m.
