Valley man sentenced to 9.25 years in prison for gun, drug charges

PHOENIX — A Valley man was sentenced to more than nine years in prison for his involvement in a drug trafficking organization, authorities said.

Michael Jose Alvarez of Guadalupe previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit possession of methamphetamine for sale and misconduct involving weapons, the Attorney General Office said in a press release last week.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office investigators began looking into Alvarez in June 2021.

State prosecutors said law enforcement arrested Alvarez when they saw him leaving a hotel room while carrying a bag on June 15, 2021, and recovered sale quantities of methamphetamine, fentanyl pills, a scale and multiple guns.

Alvarez was sentenced to 9.25 years in prison for the drug offense and a concurrent term of two and a half years for the weapons offense.
