Valley likely to hit 80 degrees for first time in 2022 as WM Phoenix Open rolls in

PHOENIX — There’s a good chance for 80s at the WM Phoenix Open during the weekend, but they’re more likely to come from warm temperatures than golfers’ scorecards.

Phoenix is forecast to hit 80 degrees for the first time in 2022 on Thursday, the day of the first round of the annual golf tournament in Scottsdale.

Friday’s high is expected to be 79 degrees before reaching 81 degrees on Saturday and 80 degrees on Sunday, the final round of the tournament.

The warm weather will be a boost from what Phoenix has seen over the past two months.

Tuesday marked the first time since Dec. 6 with a high over 75 degrees.

The mercury reached 80 degrees for the first time in 2021 on Feb. 2, two days before the golf tournament started.

This year’s WM Phoenix Open is being played a week later than normal to mirror the Super Bowl, which shifted back a week with the addition of a 17th regular season game.
