Valley could see heavy rain Monday from remnants of tropical storms

PHOENIX — A dry monsoon season could get a late boost early this week.

Moisture from two passing tropical storms and a Pacific low pressure system could drop more than an inch of rain in the Valley on Monday, Andrew Deemer with the National Weather Service told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Friday.

“If the conditions line up perfect, we could see quite a bit of rain, especially in the Phoenix area,” Deemer said. “I think 1-2 inches is probably the most likely.”

NWS also said the storms could produce damaging winds, frequent lightning and large hail.

There is a 50% chance of rain Monday and precipitation remains in the forecast throughout the week, according to the NWS.

Those numbers could be inflated up north and in rural areas, according to Deemer.

So far, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has received 0.43 inches of rain during the monsoon season, which officially started June 15.

That’s more than two inches less than normal for the season.

The monsoon season officially ends Sept. 30.
