US Rep. Matt Salmon to take vice president position at ASU

After five terms in Washington representing the 5th District of Arizona, U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon is taking over a new role at Arizona State University.

Salmon will be the vice president for government affairs at ASU at the end of the 114th Congress, according to ASU Now. He will assist ASU in advancing and planning its global strategy and will oversee the university’s local, state and federal relations team.

Salmon himself attended ASU and graduated in 1981 before going on to get a master’s degree at Brigham Young University in public administration. He was elected to the Arizona State Senate before being joining Congress in 1994.

Salmon served three terms before leaving in 2000. He then worked as an education policy consultant to ASU before returning to Congress in 2012 and getting re-elected in 2014.
