PHOENIX — The U.S. Marshals Task Force arrested a man on Thursday in La Paz county on charges of raping a 6-year-old girl and and possession of child pornography.

Jason Lowry was taken in by authorities after fleeing Maryland, where he had warrants out for his arrest for not appearing in court to face 11 charges of possession and distribution of child pornography, and raping and assaulting a child in July 2021, according to a press release.

Authorities said Lowry left Maryland to seek refuge in Bouse, Arizona, a town located in a remote area east of Parker, and was given shelter and employment by a man who took him in, unaware he was housing a fugitive.

Lowry was booked into the La Paz County Jail while awaiting extradition to Maryland to face charges, authorities said.

“Of all the dangerous fugitives that the U.S. Marshals arrest, the individuals who are charged with the rape of minors and engaged in child pornography, are especially important to us,” David Gonzalez, United States Marshal, said in the release.
