US Marshals arrest fugitive Arizona stalker in New York

PHOENIX – A fugitive who’d been convicted of assaulting and stalking his ex-girlfriend in Arizona was taken into custody in New York on Monday, authorities said.

The U.S. Marshals said Jamie Jackson, 40, had been on the run since he stopped appearing at his trial in a Pima County court.

In his absence, a jury found him guilty on six counts of aggravated harassment, stalking, and aggravated assault on March 8.

Jackson was arrested Monday morning in Watertown, New York, the U.S. Marshals said in a press release. He was being held at a New York facility while awaiting his return to Arizona.

“Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the men and women of the Arizona WANTED Violent Offender Task Force, Jamie Jackson is behind bars today,” Marshal David Gonzales said in the release.

Jackson went on trial for physically assaulting and choking his girlfriend in September 2016. He also showed up at her residence and workplace and continued calling, texting and emailing her after she took out a protective order against him.

The Tucson Police Department, the Arizona WANTED Violent Offender Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force worked together to track Jackson down.
