24-year-old woman dies after she was found unconscious overnight on Phoenix road

A 24-year-old woman died at a hospital after she was found unconscious in a Phoenix roadway late Sunday night, authorities said.

PHOENIX — A 24-year-old woman died at a hospital after she was found unconscious in a Phoenix roadway late Sunday night, authorities said.

Officers responded to reports of a vehicle collision near 19th Avenue and Broadway Road around 11:50 p.m.

Fire crews treated the woman, identified as Angel Benkelman, at the scene before taking her to a nearby hospital where she died.

Detectives have tried to find witnesses or video surveillance of the incident but have not been successful to this point. Evidence from the Office of the Medical Examiner will be reviewed.

The Phoenix Police Department is asking anyone with information about the pedestrian’s death to call the department or Silent Witness.
