Tucson police clear man suspected of stealing coronavirus test kits

PHOENIX — The Tucson Police Department concluded an investigation which has cleared a man originally thought to have stolen 29 unused COVID-19 test kits.

On March 21, Tucson police were dispatched to El Rio Health Center around 8 p.m. where it was reported that an individual disguised as a delivery man had stolen the kits.

Following the release of surveillance photos to the public, detectives were able to identify the suspect after receiving multiple tips.

After interviewing the man, detectives determined that the suspect is in fact a delivery driver for a third-party transport company that subcontracts for Sonora Quest Laboratories, according to the Tucson Police Department.

Through interviewing the suspect and employees of the health care facility, detectives were able to determine that the unused test kits were accidentally removed from El Rio and transported to Sonora Quest following a request for pick-up.
