PHOENIX – A Tucson man was recently sentenced to 10 years in prison for methamphetamine possession, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.

Jose Fernando McCormick, 52, was sentenced on Friday after previously pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

McCormick had approximately 8 kilograms of methamphetamine in his truck when he drove to a gas station in Tucson on Oct. 3 2024, authorities said. McCormick planned to distribute the meth to someone at the gas station but as law enforcement officers tried to stop him, he fled the scene.

McCormick then drove to a nearby neighborhood and jumped out of his truck while it was still moving, causing the vehicle to crash into a nearby electrical pole, authorities said.

Law enforcement officers then found McCormick hiding in a nearby shed.

He was arrested as part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces Strike Force operation, prosecutors said.

The investigation into the case was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
