Trump calls out Arizona’s Brnovich for not promoting election claims

PHOENIX — Attorney General Mark Brnovich was the latest Arizona politician former President Donald Trump called out for not promoting conspiracies related to the November 2020 election.

Trump, in a statement emailed Saturday to media, said Brnovich was “nowhere to be found” in the former president’s defense that his election loss was due to “massive crime.”

A full hand recount of the election in Maricopa County led by the Republican-controlled Arizona Senate resumed Monday.

“The lackluster Attorney General of Arizona, Mark Brnovich, has to get on the ball and catch up with the great Republican patriots in the Arizona State Senate,” Trump said in the statement.

The Republican Brnovich has moved on from the election to become a vocal opponent of some policies of President Joe Biden, including his position on border issues.

Brnovich, whose term as attorney general expires in 2022 and is expected to run for a high office, hasn’t issued a statement in response to Trump’s words.

Repeated reviews of the election results prior to the Senate audit have found no issues that would overturn Biden’s narrow victory in Arizona.

Biden won Arizona last year by 10,457 votes and won in Maricopa County — the state’s most populous — by 45,109 votes.

Brnovich and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, another post-election target of Trump, were in attendance in early December when the state certified Biden as its election winner.

“Arizona was a big part and Brnovich must put himself in gear, or no Arizona Republican will vote for him in the upcoming elections,” Trump said in the statement. “They will never forget and neither will the great patriots of our nation.”
