Truck fire forces drivers off westbound Interstate 10 in Tempe

PHOENIX – A garbage truck fire closed down westbound lanes of Interstate 10 from the downtown area all the way to Tempe early Wednesday morning.

The garbage truck was burning just past 32nd Street around 4:20 a.m.

Authorities blocked traffic at the juncture with State Route 143 in Tempe.

The HOV lane and a left lane reopened before 5:30 a.m.

Expect delays on I-10 westbound toward downtown Phoenix this morning. Only the left 2 lanes of I-10 westbound are open past 32nd St because of an earlier garbage truck fire. Eastbound lanes are open but it's very slow now on I-10 and especially I-17. #PhxTraffic pic.twitter.com/LDfoeKCpEO

A spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety said the truck was the only vehicle involved in the wreck.

No other details were immediately available.
