PHOENIX – A driver was killed when his truck crashed into a tree after colliding with a car in southwest Phoenix on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Officers responded to a two-vehicle collision near 87th Avenue and Durango Street, between Buckeye and Lower Buckeye roads, around 4:20 p.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Fire department personnel had already taken the truck’s driver, 67-year-old Eric Wavomba, to a hospital by the time police arrived. He later succumbed to his injuries.

A passenger in Wavomba’s vehicle sustained injuries that aren’t considered life-threatening.

“Detectives responded to the scene and learned that the adult driver of the car exited the parking lot and collided with a truck driving southbound on the roadway. As a result of the impact, the truck hit a tree,” Sgt. Jen Zak said in a media advisory.

The driver of the car remained at the scene. Police don’t believe impairment was a factor in the crash.

A decision will be made about potential charges after the investigation is completed.

the deceased man's sister is close friend of mine. they are a lovely family. we all have the right to know who did this to him. Why is AZ so afraid to disclose his name? Fear of political backlash? Something tells me he's not a "Federally protected asset". You are getting too much like California

also why do i get the feeling they are not releasing the drivers name bc he wouldnt' know a skynyrd song if it hit him over the head? AZ is getting afraid to disclose immigration status now?
