Triple-digit weather likely to return to metro Phoenix for weekend

PHOENIX — It’s been cooling off in metro Phoenix, but triple-digit weather will be making a comeback during the weekend.

Chris Breckenridge with the National Weather Service said it could be 100 degrees or a bit higher through Sunday but rain and humidity were in the forecast for next week.

“It’s only monsoon activity, technically, because the season officially ends by the calendar Sept. 30. The weather pattern isn’t monsoonal anymore,” Breckenridge said.

The moisture will be coming from a low pressure system off of Baja, California.

Sept. 17 generally marks the last day that the average high hit 100 in the area. Thursday’s high was 98.

Breckenridge said from now until the end of October the temperatures will fall one degree every three days.

The Valley was socked by a storm this week that blew over power poles and left thousands without electricity.

Another storm at the end of August did similar damage.
