PHOENIX — From a female hiker found dead in Scottsdale to an Arizona representative dozing off during voting on a massive Trump bill, here are some of the top Arizona news stories from May 23-25.

Search crews find body of woman who went missing while hiking in Scottsdale

Hannah Moody, a 31-year-old woman who went missing while hiking in Scottsdale, was found dead Thursday, authorities said.

There were no signs of foul play, according to the Scottsdale Police Department.

Moody was last seen at the McDowell Sonoran Preserve recreation area on Wednesday morning. Concerned friends reported her missing around 7:50 p.m.

Authorities searched the area on the ground and by air until around 11:30 p.m. and resumed the efforts in the morning.

Silver Alert canceled for elderly couple last seen in Phoenix

Authorities canceled a Silver Alert on Saturday for an elderly couple that was last seen in Phoenix on Friday.

Sadie and Reed Cisco, 76 and 72 respectively, were last seen near 83rd and West Virginia avenues at 7 p.m., according to the alert.

The Ciscos were last seen in a red Dodge Ram truck with a New Mexico license plate ASHD05.

When the alert was issued, authorities said they might have been traveling back to New Mexico.

The Ciscos have medical conditions that can cause them to become easily confused. Authorities said Sadie needs oxygen and left extra bottles behind.

Man sentenced for $500K in pandemic unemployment fraud claims in California, Arizona

A California man was sentenced to nearly three years in prison on Wednesday for fraudulently filing nearly $500,000 in pandemic unemployment insurance claims, authorities said.

Ronnie Lamar Strawberry Jr., 39, of Los Angeles, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, according to a Wednesday news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.

His sister, Raychelle Strawberry, also pleaded guilty to the same charge and was sentenced to five years of probation for her role, authorities said.

Strawberry and his sister filed false unemployment insurance claims that were a part of the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program, according to prosecutors.

The siblings used the personal identifiable information of more than 25 people, which included their names, birth dates and social security numbers.

Arizona Republican admits sleeping through vote on massive bill: ‘It’s embarrassing’

Arizona U.S. Rep. David Schweikert confirmed that he missed this week’s House vote on a massive bill central to President Donald Trump’s agenda because he fell asleep.

“It’s embarrassing,” the northeast Valley Republican told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s The Mike Broomhead Show on Friday.

Schweikert, chair of the Joint Economic Committee, said he’d been negotiating the One Big Beautiful Bill Act for “36 straight hours” before going down the hall to change his shirt early Thursday.

“Next thing I know, I’m holding a cup of coffee and my phone is ringing saying the vote is on. I’d fallen asleep,” he said.

He raced back to the House floor, but it was too late.

Arizona man posing as auto mechanic sentenced to nearly 3 years in prison

An Arizona man who posed as an auto mechanic was sentenced to nearly 3 years in prison on Tuesday, according to authorities.

Andres Lopez, 37, who also goes by Manny, pleaded guilty earlier this year to one count of wire fraud, according to a Tuesday Eastern District of Missouri announcement.

In November 2019, Lopez swindled money from customers through his fraudulent Arizona business called All Performance Tuning and Diesel Repair LLC, according to prosecutors.

A customer out of Missouri purchased a Toyota RAV4 and wired Lopez $45,000 for the car. Lopez lied about owning the car and gave the customer a series of excuses.

He even went as far as to impersonate a general manager of a Florida Toyota dealership through text messages.
