PHOENIX — As unafraid as conservative commentator Tomi Lahren is to voice her opinion, she said she rarely endorses candidates.
That changed Friday as she joined a bus tour with Arizona Senate candidate, former state Sen. Dr. Kelli Ward.
“I’ve had the opportunty to meet Kelli a few times and I was immediately impressed,” Lahren said on 92.3 KTAR News’ The Chad Benson Show on Friday. “…I don’t go on bus tours, I don’t endorse candidates, but this is a special case for me.”
Lahren said she was most attracted by Ward’s hard-nosed stance on immigration.
“She’s the only candidate that I’ve seen that’s been able to come out and say ‘We believe in the radical notion Americans come first in this country. We need a wall, we need border security, we need border enforcement,'” Lahren said. “That’s Dr. Kelli Ward, and that’s the only one that’s going to stand up for those values.”
After making stops at Lake Havasu, Kingman, Paulden and the Pioneer Living History Museum on Friday, the bus will roll on through Phoenix and into Tucson and Yuma on Saturday.
Ward is making her final stand to win the Republican primary on Tuesday.
A Dataorbital poll published Wednesday showed U.S. rep. Martha McSally with a commanding lead that doubled Ward’s tally.
But Ward thinks she’s the “only candidate” that would be able to defeat Democratic favorite Kyrsten Sinema in the general election.
Based on Sinema’s belief in single-payer healthcare, Ward compared her to U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.
“Kyrsten has been basically operating unchallenged for several months, she’s been out there trying to mislead the people into thinking that she’s some kind of independent, when she’s really a radical, progressive leftist,” Ward said.
Ward didn’t express confidence in McSally and didn’t mention former Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was trailing Ward in the poll.
“We don’t want another senator cut from the same cloth as (Jeff) Flake and (John) McCain, and Martha McSally is clearly from that mold,” she said.
