The owners of Title 9 Sports Grill hail the new concept as “Phoenix’s first-ever women-focused sports bar.”

Title 9 is expected to open in late January in the former Short Leash Hotdogs space on Seventh Avenue, just north of Indian School Road in Phoenix. It will have at least 14 TVs and almost all the time they will be showing women’s sports.

The concept is the brainchild of Audrey Corley, founder of Boycott Bar, which is one of the only lesbian bars in Arizona, and Kat Moore, co-founder of Short Leash Hotdogs. Moore sold the Short Leash Concept and will be operating Title 9 in the same space.

“It was something I always wanted to do, and the timing was right with Kat and Brad from Short Leash, they were closing up,” Corley told the Business Journal. “It all came together right at the right time.”

Since announcing the concept earlier this month, Corley said there have been some skeptics but most of the feedback she has received has been positive.

“The community is looking forward to having a space to enjoy women’s sports,” Corley said. “There is something to be said about the trend right now and the growth of women’s sports. A couple of years ago that it was only 5% of viewership and now it’s up to 15% of viewership of all sports on TV.”
