Thunderstorms start in East Valley and roll west as monsoons continue

PHOENIX — A thunderstorm ran through the parts of the East Valley and North Valley on Saturday evening, causing severe thunderstorm warnings from 5:30 p.m. that extended into the night.

Winds were recorded at gusts over 60 MPH at Sky Harbor Airport, according to the National Weather Service.

The heaviest pockets of rain occurred north of Fort McDowell where rain totals exceeded half an inch and approached one inch in some areas.

Lightning storms were also seen throughout the Valley.

Forecasts show a slight chance of thunderstorm activity on Sunday night as well.

Monsoon season is expected to continue through September 30.
