PHOENIX — A thunderstorm rolled into the East Valley on Wednesday night, causing flooding that closed U.S. 60 in Gilbert.

Both directions of U.S. 60 were closed just after 9 p.m. due to flooding. The westbound lanes were closed at Val Vista Drive, while the eastbound lanes were closed at Gilbert Road.

The freeway reopened Thursday by 12:30 a.m.

The storm dropped more than an inch of rain in Gilbert and just under 0.75 inches in Mesa, according to the Maricopa County Flood Control District rain gauges.
