Thousand attend services to honor fallen heroes

PHOENIX — Ceremonies were held in several cities across the state to pay tribute to the military men and women who gave their lives serving this country.

A morning event at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona near Cave Creek Road and the Loop 101 featured a flyover of World War II aircraft, the placing of dozens of wreaths and Arizona Republican Senator John McCain speaking at the service.

Afterward McCain said he was proud to see so many patriotic Arizonan’s giving up some of their time to salute our fallen heroes.

“The turnout is tremendous,” McCain said. “Everybody could be someplace else and it makes me very proud to represent these wonderful people.”

Navy veteran James Bisacca was pleased to see the large turnout.

“My brother is gone now, he served,” Bisacca said.” “My father was a Pearl Harbor survivor. This day is much more than cookouts and swimming. It’s about our fallen brothers and sisters who fell before us.”

Among those honored today was Navy SEAL Charles Keating IV of Phoenix who died on May 3, 2016 in battle near Mosul, Iraq.
