Things are looking up: Blue moon to rise over Valley

PHOENIX — A somewhat rare event will occur in the Arizona skies over the next few days.

A blue moon, or the second full moon of the month, will be visible in the sky Thursday night and Friday morning and night.

The moon will be at its fullest at 6:58 a.m. Friday.

“I would recommend that skywatchers look on Thursday evening and Friday evening,” said 92.3 FM’s Steve “Dr. Sky” Kates. “They’ll see the most amazing orb.”

Dr. Sky said the blue moon is also a nice homage to Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon, who passed away recently.

“When you look toward the moon, they say, and I quote, ‘Give a wink to Neil and remember him and all those that were involved in lunar exploration.'”
